YAMAMOTO PAPER is a paper wholesaler and original stationary brand located in Osaka, Sakai. Founded in 1972, over the years we have sold a lot of paper as a paper wholesaler. In 2005, Draw on our own experience, we started to manufacture and sale original products made with selected paper. In 2009, Old Heidelberg windmill platen letterpress came to our company and we started to print with it. Also we are doing various activities to convey the enjoyment of the paper.
Even white paper that looks the same has bluish white and reddish white. There is also a sparkling white paper that will be used for wedding invitations if there is a white paper with slick texture. Paper has different thickness, colour and texture, and there are thousands of types. To convey such entertainment of paper and warmth of paper, we are making products using various printing technologies and paper processing technologies. Cosmo Air Light is a micro-coated book paper that is well suited for printing. It is categorized as high bulk book paper, and is used mostly for color printing of magazines and catalogs. This paper is known for its gentle white color that is not harsh on the eyes and for its accuracy of color representation. The micro-coated surface allows for beautiful photo reproductions. Our fountain pen ink tests showed longer than average dry times, but produced great color rendition accuracy, especially for colored inks. The micro-coated surface is not overly smooth and gives you a nice writing experience.

It is a translucent paper made by machine processing chemical pulp until it becomes sludgy and then applying heat and pressure to increase its smoothness and density. It is called glassine because it resembles glass. It is food-compatible and used as packaging for medicines and food products.

Onion skin paper is named for its thin, translucent paper like [onion skin]. It was used for airmail stationery because of its light weight, for typewriter paper because of its high strength, and for record sheets, books with many pages, and Bibles because its thinness made it compact. While most onion skin paper is characterized by wrinkles caused by natural drying, Yamamoto Shigyo Smooth Onion Skin is a paper with high smoothness due to dry-wheel drying. This makes it highly writable. Despite its thinness, even low viscosity fountain pen ink does not bleed through to the back of the paper, and it has high colorability. And there is no back-through even when overlaying with alcohol markers or oil-based pens.

Tomoegawa Paper Mill discontinued production of Tomoe River in 2021 due to a change in business policy. Fortunately, Tomoe River is continued by Sanzen Paper, a paper manufacturer based in Kanazawa. They improved the quality by several production tests. The quality of Sanzen Tomoe River is designed to have highly suitable for writing rival even that of Tomoegawa Tomoe River. And it has highly suitable for writing by Frixion pen too.

COSMO Airlight is a bulky, micro-coated paper with excellent printability. It is classified as a bulky book paper and was widely used for magazines, mooks, and catalogs printed in color. Cosmo Air Light is characterized by its whiteness, which is not too white and blends well with the eye, and by the coloring effect of the coating. It produces a glossier finish than uncoated papers, and beautiful photo reproduction can be achieved. In our fountain pen ink test, it took a little time to dry, but the colorability was high, and color inks in particular came out beautifully. At its height, the Ishinomaki Mill was producing almost 40% of Japan's publishing paper, about 2,500 tons of paper per day. After the disaster of the Great East Japan Earthquake, Nippon Paper Industries spared no time to bring their factory back to operation. They were determined to reach full recovery, not only for the sake of their local employees, but for all of the book lovers throughout Japan. Within six months, they were able to bring the Ishinomaki No. 8 paper machine (first deployed in 1970) back on-line.

In the fall of 2018, the manufacturer of Kin Kaku Den, Sakamoto Paper Industries, decided to close their operations. Sakamoto Paper Industries had a long history of making paper by hand before they switched to mechanized paper production in the 1960s. Kin Kaku Den was a paper they developed through extensive trial-and-error with the goal to create Washi paper suitable for offset printing. The name was inspired by the glimmering light reflected off of the main hall of the temple. Kin Kaku Den was commonly used in letter sets and for prayer writing by Buddhist monks. It is also used by the Ino Washi Museum for their pamphlets and entry tickets. Unfortunately they decided to cease operations due to the retirement of their paper master and the aging of their equipment which made maintenance difficult.

British Fool's Cap paper was first imported into Japan in the late 1800s. The popular Japanese version was produced at the Oji Ogura Factory, where the name OK comes from. While the current iteration is being made by Nippon Paper Industries Yatsushiro Factory, they have kept the OK name for brand recognition. Our ink tests with blue and black Sailor and Platinum inks showed no feathering nor bleed-through. Very wet redish-pinkish J. Herbin inks showed slight feathering and bleed-through.
