Paper Tasting is a test writing pad to enjoy writing comfort. Like wine tasting, you can try various kinds of paper and find your favorite pen friendly paper. Also, these products are packaged with paper descriptions and paper classification table so that you can know more deeply about paper made in Japan. Just like hearing a lot of knowledge from a wine sommelier.
We are planning to continue the series in the future and going to provide even deeper knowledge through it.

Paper tasting Pen Friendly Onionskin vol.1
B7 size : 35NFC
35NFC is a food-grade oil-resistant paper. Most oil-resistant paper use plastic film or fluorine resin, but these are not the most environmentally friendly. 35NFC avoids these materials and produces its oil-resistancy through overlapping layers of highly dense paper. The regular paper absorbs oil immediately on contact, but with 35NFC, there is no absorption even after 30 minutes. Our ink tests showed a longer than normal dry time, but great color representation and no bleed-through.
A6 size : Typewriter Paper
It is important for typewriter paper to be thin and durable. This Typewriter Paper is made to handle the strong strikes of the typewriter keys, able to show-through crisp letters even if stacked five sheets thick.
B6 : Champion Copy
Champion Copy N was developed to provide high translucency and sturdiness for use in the diazo copying process. It is also suitable for offset and letterpress printing.

Very different to Tomoe River paper
I’m so happy that AFTH are stocking Yamamoto paper, I was super excited to try onion paper! Onion paper is definitely thinner than Tomoe river paper, it shows ink properties perfectly but sadly it crinkles more, and wetter inks like Pilot Iroshizuku feather on it. But no bleed through or transfer onto the other page.
