In 2020, Mitsubishi Paper Mills and Yamamoto Shigyo worked together to develop a new paper. on February 4, 2020, a development meeting was held at Mitsubishi Paper Mills' Takasago Factory, where Taizo Yamamoto (Yamamoto Shigyo) proposed Bank Paper Takasago Premium. He presented five challenges for the development of this new paper.
1) "Pursuit of writing paper compatible with fountain pens," 2) "Pursuit of silkiness (smoothness)," 3) "Pursuit of ink shading," 4) "Pursuit of ink coloration (brightness)," and 5) "Pursuit of ink drying properties for use as the body of notebooks. When we look at these issues from the perspective of papermaking technology, they are contradictory to each other. For example, a paper that absorbs ink more slowly produces a darker shade of ink, but is not suitable for use as a notebook. The development team at the Takasago Mill successfully solved the five challenges by adjusting raw materials, sizing materials, and the press part. After repeated trial runs, Bank Paper Takasago Premium was finally produced on September 8, 2020, at Takasago Machine No. 4. It bears the "THREE DIAMONDS" watermark as proof of Mitsubishi Paper Mills' development and as a guarantee of quality.
