Esterbrook Pens
The Esterbrook Pen Company was a true American Original.
For one hundred years Esterbrook was the pride of Camden, NJ.
In 1858, entrepreneur Richard Esterbrook established his pen company under the trademark Esterbrook Pen Company, which would soon become one of the biggest and most beloved pen makers in the world. At its height, Esterbrook was the largest pen manufacturer in the United States employing 600 workers.
Much of America’s history has been written and created with Esterbrook pens. U.S. presidents Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon B. Johnson signed legislation with their Esterbrook pens. John F. Kennedy called for our nation to literally reach for the stars, signing documents that promised to land a man on the moon and bring him safely back to earth.
Famous Disney artist Carl Banks brought Donald Duck to life with an Esterbrook No 356. Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz used the No 914 for all his comics. All the while millions of students grew up learning to write using Esterbrook pens. It is fair to say that these visionaries, and artists, helped Esterbrook to become an integrated part of America’s politics and culture in the 19th and 20th centuries.
When a dream comes true, how does one summarize it in a paragraph?
I am delighted to share this special collaboration between Esterbrook and TheCoffeeMonsterzCo. I first met Bryan at the NYC Stationery Fest in August 2024 and we floated around the idea of working together. I was sure Esterbrook would lose interest in working with me at some point during the process so I made sure not to get my hopes up. But no, Bryan made kept me in the loop throughout the process, he made accommodations for me due to our limitations as a small business, and he was receptive to all of my picky requests. And because of that, I am so proud to be able to share my dream pen with you!
It would be wrong not to have an ink to match! Another part of our collaboration with Esterbrook is this ink bottle. I actually knew what I wanted the colour of this ink to be before I knew what I wanted the pen to look like!
This was my exact description to Bryan in one of our first emails: "For context, I wanted the ink colour to represent "forgotten iced coffee" or "leftover iced coffee" that may be sitting on someone's tabletop 😅 Basically when one gets so engrossed in writing that the ice melts. A big gross but also quirky!"
On some papers, this ink shows-up as a taupey brown while on other papers, it leans more grey. It has no shimmer, but it is an excellent shader! It is not waterproof

As the waning days of summer give way to the changing season, we present our newest Estie, a tribute to the prismatic beauty of a light-filled Honeycomb. Honey is as old as history itself. Used for more than 8000 years by ancient civilizations as a gift to the Gods, archaeologists excavating Egypt’s famous pyramids discovered tombs that contained still-edible 3000 year-old honey. Bees also know the magic of crystallized honey, storing and using it for food as fall arrives and winter approaches. The Estie Honeycomb is flecked with the colors of rich amber, golden sunsets, and is reminiscent of the rainbow of rustling leaves underfoot
Within this range of color emerges a signature eau de nil blue that Mucha used to clothe the women in lush drapery, illuminate the skies behind them, give them wings and surround them with waves of water.
Our newest addition to our core range of Esterbook Estie’s celebrates the innovation of Mucha’s work and his particular shades of blue, blended into a material that reflects the celluloid of pen making past.
A callback to the Golden Age of Hollywood, Scarlet was inspired by old glamour and the silver screen starlets who set Los Angeles (and a few men's hearts) ablaze.
The latest Estie is a romantic mixture of blues and reds, making for an intriguing blend of subtlety and romanticism. At once bold and demure, this pen will surely be a Leading Lady in your collection. To celebrate the nearby shores of Esterbrook’s birthplace, we present the Sea Glass as the newest Estie in our Core Range.
Timeless takes time.
And so it is with the coveted coastal treasures that wash ashore during low tides all over the world, known as sea glass.
Shaped over many sunrises and sunsets, these bits of colored glass drift for as many as two hundred years, weathering storms in the salt water, tossing and turning, Mother Nature’s own polishing that gives them their characteristically smooth, frosted texture.
One of the top-selling colours, Tortoise harkens back to the popular acrylic blend from the 30s and 40s. A balanced blend of browns and tans, Tortoise has the elegance of yesteryear while still very much being a modern pen.
